Oliver Townend and his Burghley winner Ballaghmor Class, the 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (Courage II x Kilderry Place) owned by Karyn Shuter, Angela Hislop, and Val Ryan are the overnight leaders heading into tomorrow’s show jumping on a 27.3. The pair moved up from fifth place by adding just 0.8 time penalties. Their score showed 20 penalties briefly after Townend had to take a long route at a water, but it was removed.

Just 0.5 behind in second place is Boyd Martin and On Cue who also added 0.8 time penalties and were the fastest of the U.S. pairs. On Cue, the Turner family’s 15-year-old Anglo European mare (Cabri D’Elle x On High), was the only one of Martin’s three rides to finish the day and is well-positioned for tomorrow.

Sixty-one horses left the start box as two pairs withdrew before the start: Colleen Rutledge with Covert Rights and Hawley Bennett-Awad with Jollybo.

There were 45 pairs who crossed the finish line and only four made the time. Kevin McNab and Scuderia 1918 Don Quidam from Australia were the first to do so by finishing bang on the optimum time of 11 minutes. Then Harry Meade and Superstition from Great Britain crossed at 10 minutes and 54 seconds – the exact same time as Tim Price and Xavier Faer from New Zealand. Jonelle Price also joined the double clear club with Classic Moet finishing in 10 minutes and 55 seconds.

There were 13 falls, two technical eliminations, and one retirement in addition to a variety of runouts and stops throughout the course.
